    Hi there.
We are using Buddy Press to design a new site, but it has one massive flaw.

If you upgrade to be a Vendor for a shop ont he site, you lose the ability to add an Avatar to your Forum problem, and Cover photo.

Can this plugin allow Vendors and other user roles to post on the forum, and upload avatars and cover photos?

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

Unfortunately not. We have also not integrated with BuddyPress at this point. While the plugin will work alongside BuddyPress just fine, there is not a deep integration available yet.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Really? So if you had a multi store site, and each store wanted to post on the Forum…. they can’t?

I don’t get it. Makes no sense to me. Why stop them from being able to do that, when you have a ‘higher level’ of access?

    Hi Simon,

I’m a little confused here. Are you using BuddyPress’s Forum or BuddyPress and our plugin (WP Discussion Board)?

Our plugin is completely unrelated to BuddyPress. It’s a standalone WordPress forum plugin.

You can use it alongside BuddyPress, but the user profiles etc will be handled by BuddyPress and not our forum.

Could you please give me more clarity on how your site is setup and if it is indeed using WP Discussion Board?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Right now we are using BP, and it has this annoying problem of only allowing Contributor to upload a photo/cover.

That’s why I asked if this plugin – WITHOUT BP installed… so this one alone, allows Contributor and Vendor and others, to upload a Profile Avatar.

    Person visits site.
Signs up to the ‘Forum’ (Currently BP). they can upload profile and cover photo.
Then they can Subscribe to be a Store Viewer or Store Owner.
If they go for Store Owner they pass through Paid Mem Pro, and their role becomes Vendor and they can create a single store.

BUT…. when they do this, they lose the privilege of editing their profile photos.

That’s the issue. And that’s why I ask if this plugin (instead of BP), can allow the photos for Vendors and other roles. Else, you have store owners wanting to post ont he wall, with no means of editing their image.

    Hi Simon,

Our plugin supports role based privileges, but our user profiles are default WordPress user profiles (not customisable from a frontend UI). This is different to what you would get with BuddyPress which is a far more advanced social network type plugin. Our plugin focuses on the forum discussion aspects, rather than user profiles and social aspects.

    Hope this makes sense.

Mmmm yeah that could be a problem.
It needs to be a kind of Facebook type fun place to be. I suspect yours uses the WordPress ‘backend’ for management of profile. BP doesn’t.

We have a developer looking into it. We had challenges along the way, but simple allowing anyone who is registered to add a picture seems simple. BP is making it impossible. And their support is slow to non-existent.
