• Can’t seem to login as admin from a laptop (w2k/IE5). As a different user login works fine, but even if I logout admin from cpu#1, I can’t login as admin from cpu#2. Just want to administer the blog while I’m out and about. Is that so wrong? ??

    cheers!

    Well then…’NASA, we have a problem’…

I’ll do some more thorough checking and post back.

BTW, I’m also having trouble accessing my DB remotely using my website’s IP, plus port 3306, (using MySQL4X Manager). Is this correct? In a PHP project I dev’d last year, I have a note to myself that says “MySQL4X sends its pwd as encrypted” and to “make sure the stored pwd is encrypted or I can’t login to the DB”. Any thoughts on how, or what I need, to access the DB?

Remote accessing databases is generally stopped by hosts. Have you checked with them that it really is being allowed ?

    Nope, I haven’t. But will do now…

    thanx.

K, #1) WP-login from secondary cpu’s has been resolved. I just changed my password from the admin panel, and I was then able to admin WP from my laptop. Changed the password back to the original, and was good to go. Musta ‘kick-started’ it somehow.

#2) my ISP responded, DB-access wasn’t an issue. They recommended that I add my localhost IP to the Access Hosts panel of MySQL. Duh. Only, I had already done that (and forgotten to tell them about it). Based on past experience, I suspect a client-server encryption issue. But there’s not much I can do about without direct access to the db-server. So maybe I’ll try different MySQL admin-clients that have a switch for password encryption or something…

    cheers!

I don’t BELIEVE IT! I went back to my client and, for the hell of it, re-composed the connection string, and this time…QUIT the app. Relaunched the app, clicked on the new connector and…PRESTO! Connection successful!

    “NASA, we have lift-off!”

Just goes to show ya, you can’t take ANYTHING for granted when some of these admin UIs seem to be acting up…

    cheers!
