Hi again Mark. On a different but related topic, is it possible for topic to not have a default category setting? Not “uncategorized” but blank?

It seems that was the case before our recent deleting and editing of topics, but cannot see how to unselect all in the topic settings.

    Thank you! Jan

WordPress requires a Category and utilizes the Uncategorized default (which you can’t get rid of) if the field is left blank. That is why we force you to choose a category for a Topic.

    Understood, thanks.

The person who has been working with this may be mistaken about the previous situation. Is it possible that was not the case in an earlier version of WordPress or MyCurator? I only ask because he works with MyCurator a lot and the unchecking is one more step in the process, but it seems WordPress brings the checked category to the top of the list so it should be manageable.

    Thanks, Jan

One other thing, for some reason, the tag “uncategorized” is also getting added to every post, even though “no tags” has been set in topic settings.

I don’t know what the previous settings were, but this is something I am pretty sure was not the case before recent changes.

    Thanks, Jan

Make sure that the “Use Search 2 Keywords as Tags” value in the Topic edit screen is cleared. Then MyCurator will not put any tags in if you have chosen No Tags. If you are getting uncategorized as a tag, I don’t know where that would come from. WordPress doesn’t require a tag. You could see if it is in the tag list in Posts? Maybe you use another plugin that works with Tags and forces it, or your theme displays uncategorized if there is no tag? Or maybe your theme is displaying the Category of Uncategorized where you think it is a Tag?

WordPress has always required a category, so you should have seen Uncategorized as a Category default in previous versions of WordPress and MyCurator.

    Thanks Mark.

I think I understand pretty well what the tag settings within topic settings should do. The Search 2 Keywords as Tags box has been unchecked the entire time and the No Tags option selected, BUT I swear an uncategorized tag is being created when using the Get It tool–I tried it with Saving to Training Page, Save to Draft, and Save to Draft and Edit.

Also, FYI, I tried deleting the uncategorized tag but then as soon as we add another post, it gets creating again not surprisingly.

For now, we are using a topic with no Search 2 keywords which results in no tags being applied. But it seems there is something amiss–perhaps because of compatibility issue with WordPress 4.4? We are using latest version of MyCurator.

    Thanks, Jan

I tested it on several test sites with WordPress 4.4 and can’t reproduce it. Maybe you have a theme option to require a tag? you might check theme settings. You might also check this by creating a draft post manually (not using MyCurator) and Not setting a tag. Then when you save to draft, see if it adds the uncategorized tag to the post.

Thanks again Mark. To report back, creating a draft or live post without using MyCurator does not automatically add an “uncategorized” tag. Only when we use MyCurator, the Search 2 keywords box is unchecked, and “No Tags” are selected in the drop-down menu.

To eliminate the tags, we created a topic with no keywords and hence no tags, so we are set for now.

    Thanks, Merry Christmas, Jan
