FIrst off, what a find this was! Your plug-in offers a lot of the things I wanted to add to my photo blog.

I noticed that my EXIF includes two distinct field: camera make (Sony, Nikon, etc.) and model (D5000, DMC-FZ70, etc.). When I include the “camera” item from Exifography, I noticed it uses the camera make only. Furthermore, it seems to truncate the field. The entire company name is not displayed. Is this a problem with my settings? I’m using Graphene as the theme for my blog.

    Regards,

I have no idea if it would be your theme, but I’d be surprised if it was. I suspect that it would be the camera itself not using the full camera name. It’s a plain text field that the camera fills in, so the plugin just uses what it’s given.

    Thanks for your reply.

The odd thing is that when I look at the metadata using Lightroom or another program, it shows the complete camera name under the label “Camera” and the specific model under a separate field. In other words, the metadata for Nikon D5000 shows up as two separate entries. The same goes for the Panasonic Lumiz DMC-FZ70. The other issue is that if the manufacturer’s name is long, e.g., Olympus Corporation of America, that shows up completely in the metadata in Lightroom, but is truncated in the Exifography as if only 6-8 characters were allowed. For now I have simply unchecked the camera name and am not including it in my entries when I publish my posts.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

Ok, please provide a link to an image where this is occurring, and if you have a couple from different cameras that the same thing is happening to that would be even more helpful.

Please take a look at https://fotomen.org/ The four shots there should show the examples. The strangest of all is the most recent shot, Bandelier NM. That was taken just a couple of weeks ago using a new camera from Panasonic. Nothing shows. The other shots are much older.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

I had a chance to experiment a bit more. I used a program to modify the EXIF information. When I did that, everything seemed to show correctly. This leaves me with the idea that either all various cameras I’ve used or Adobe Lightroom is not saving the metadata correctly. You can see examples of this in the link I provided, https://fotomen.org/. The photo for Tree of Life appears twice. The edited one is “Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life.” I corrected the camera name, merging from the original camera make and camera model. I also added the GPS coordinates. It is interesting to notice that the bridge and Austin photos were taken with a Nikon D5000. However, the camera name only appears as Corporation. Why would it be truncated?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Ok, I think the problem might be whatever you or Lightroom are putting in as the credit, which is having a flow-on effect and messing up “camera”. Not sure on this, but the credit is showing as “acintosh)” and that’s it. And in the database the camera field is saved right after the credit field (at least for the photos from your site that I’m testing).

What have you got as the credit in Lightroom?

NB the field actually used by WordPress (and this part is built into WordPress, my plugin just fetches it from the database) is the model.
So for two of your photos it should be Nikon D5000. Unfortunately for the Panasonic it would just be DMC-FZ70, but maybe that’s something you could filter on the Lightroom end to add the Panasonic in front. Or it could also be done via a PHP filter, but you would need to do it for select brands otherwise you would end up with “Nikon corporation Nikon D5000”.

    Kristen,

Thank you so much for taking time to look this over. I appreciate it very much.

The credit you refer to must be something that Adobe Lightroom automatically adds when I export the photo. I see the following: “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.3 (Macintosh).” That would explain the “acintosh)” you mentioned.

Luckily, I also have GraphicConverter, which allows me to edit the EXIF information. So, for the camera model I can easily insert the complete entry for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70.

Thanks again for your help and feedback! This is indeed a great plug-in! I’ll be anxiously waiting for future updates. Perhaps they’ll eventually include the option to order the entries in some other fashion.

Yeah, I can see in File Viewer that the credit must be “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.3 (Macintosh)”. I don’t know what the problem with that would be. I can look into it more if you send me the original file.

I’m yet to build a graphical way to order the items, but you can do it via a PHP filter: https://www.kristarella.com/2012/07/filtering-exifography-output/#rearrange-exif

Thanks for your kind offer and PHP filter suggestion. I had read about it. I just don’t know PHP at all.

As for the minor glitch with the credit, I can send you the file via email, I suppose.

    Thanks again.
