Calling the most recent category into a spot

  • We are looking to pull the most recent category of a specific post into one the spots we are using on the index page. Any php code (example below) just blows up all of our spots. Unfortunately, I can not give you a link because it is behind the clients firewall and requires a VPN connection. Does any one have any suggestions or a fix for this issue?
