Call to undefined function exif_imagetype()

Hi. I’m getting this error when I try to upload images. Any idea what this is?
Fatal error: Call to undefined function exif_imagetype() in /home/jhampt09/public_html/wp-content/plugins/grfx/admin/includes/image-processor/class-image-processor.php
I also did update my php.ini (I have a vps) to activate exif.so I am still getting this error even after
