Call my own php snippet to home.php?

Hello,

I am fairly new to php coding. I am getting the hang of the basics, but I could use some direction here.

I have copied my index.php file and made a home.php file in the theme I am using. I am trying to get a home page to display static content.

My incilnation is to create a .php page called “pitch.php” which would have my html code of my home page snippet of information that I want at the top of my home page, before the first posts are called.

I think I then have to place the call in the home.php to get the pitch.php

When I do this all hell breaks loose!!!

Is there anyone out there that understands my desired outcome and can steer me into the light!
