Hi, we had set up and using the plugin and so far everything has been working well. Then we just noticed that the search is not working properly. When searching for a keyword, in this case the name of a town, it is not showing all events that take place on that town. We double checked and there are at least 3 events on that town, but it only shows 1 event. That event that shows was built exactly the same as the other 2 not showing. Town name appears only on the Venue address in all 3 cases.

We’re puzzled and can’t find anything on the official (pro) forums or here. Does anyone know how to solve this? the Search function is very important for our website. Thank you!

    Howdy vkprog,

The search function is basically WordPress’ builtin function, and it does not search through the meta data (like venue city) when it runs. If you have a very advanced knowledge of WP queries then you could modify it to index more fields, at the cost of slowing down searches.

If that’s not an option then you might suggest this as an official feature request. The Events Calendar: Suggest a feature

    Cheers!

Thanks for the answer. We’ve found other support tickets with the same issue. We were thinking that what you suggest might be the way to go. This is in our opinion, a bug, as it should be something basic, if you have the possibility to search an event, to find the event by searching the place where it is going to be. If I live in a town, I want to know what concerts are in that town, so I search by the name of the town! This is the case here.

The weirdest thing of all is that this search DOES find/show one of the events in that city, but not the other 3, that are built the exactly same way. Why would that be then?

Also, the search is not recognizing/using the tags of the event. The city name is also a tag.

We were looking where to modify the queries, but didn’t find where it is. Could you guide us?

    Thanks in advance!

    Howdy Vkprog,

I definitely understand where you’re coming from. Everyone wants more accurate search results. But getting there is anything but basic. There is a reason why Google is the second richest company on the planet, they are successfully tackling one of the most difficult problems software has ever faced. And to get there they have hired some of the most talented people on the planet and invested billions. In short, search is difficult.

But your request would make an excellent feature suggestion! ?? We will definitely monitor it to see how many folks want something similar.

We were looking where to modify the queries, but didn’t find where it is. Could you guide us?

You can modify this query the same way you will modify any query: via pre_get_posts.

    Cheers!
