Caching HTML Pages in AWS CloudFront

Are HTML pages cached in AWS CloudFront by default or does W3 Total Cache cache only static CSS and image files?
In order to mitigate DDoS attacks and to reduce the load on my web server, I am looking for a CloudFront based solution which caches the HTML pages.
