Cached Redirects Breaking Facebook Shares?

This is a weird one.
We updated a client site to WordPress and that came with an update in link structure so we had to redirect every article (900 of them).
Once it was all up and running and we worked through the bugs, it all seemed to work.
But then all of a sudden the FB share count disappeared. Twitter and G+ continued to work. So I de-activated the plugin and cleared the cache and they were back.
Turned everything back on and they were gone again. I can replicate this every time.
Is this a know issue and is there a work around without having to delete the plugin?
