• Hi,

I manage a lot of sites (on different hosting spaces, but all with the same provider) that are using LiteSpeed Cache plugin and service (activated in cPanel with correct IP set up in the DNS zone). The cache works good with may different plugins and gets us great speed imrpovements.

However, I notice that on a fairly (ir)regular basis, on different sites, the plugin starts showing a message about the cache not being available. In french:

    Attention

Les fonctions de mise en cache sur cette page sont actuellement indisponibles !

Pour utiliser les fonctions de mise en cache, vous devez avoir un serveur web LiteSpeed ou utiliser un CDN QUIC.cloud.

Checking cPanel, the lscache option is always still activated. But when checking the site cache timestamps in the page source, I see there is no caching going on as the timestamp always changes to the latest request time.

Deactivating and reactivating the LiteSpeed Cache plugin does not fix the issue. Only when I deactivate and reactivate the lscache option in cPanel, the admin message goes away and page source timestamps are showing a cached version.

I asked the provider but they insist that it is not possible that a connection to the Lightspeed service can be “lost” as that would cause the site to become completely inaccessible. Their conclusion: it must be the plugin.

    What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I’ve seen the problem come back often… Please open a ticket via their support platform (espace client > tickets) and feel free to refer to my ticket (#419258) from 5 months ago too if that helps.

    Hi folks,

Here another one who’s wondering how LiteSpeed works and what are the results, also with O2Switch as hoster.

In short I’m using another cache plugin for some months but am not happy with it because of some issues.. So I’m making inquiries to find out how/if Litespeed should be a good alternative, and I fond this thread…

So, only one question, does Litespeed and this plugin work well with O2Switch now, or does it still need de/reactivate LS on server side ? Do you think it’s still the best solution or should I look for an alternative ?

Thanks very much for your advices ! I’d be very gratful…

Hey @lsphoto , as far as I’m concerned I still have to disable / enable from time to time. I have this problem “only” on three websites so I’m checking once every week. Sometimes it’s broken sometimes it’s not.

Not the best solution but that’s how I’ve been doing so far

    Hi @alexis888

Thank you very much for your input!

So it looks like I’d better search for another solution yet… It’s a pity but I’m looking for a long term solution of course.
    Thanks again !!

    Hello all, @ravanh , @alexis888

So I got into contact with our hoster O2Switch some weeks ago for server config questions, and asked about the problem mentionned in this topic, wich I gave the link of to the support. The only reply about it was “there is no problem with Litespeed on o2switch” (and the topic was marked “resolved” soon after..).

So I finaly decided to give it a try. All went right until today, as I got the same message :
    “Attention
Les fonctions de mise en cache sur cette page sont actuellement indisponibles !
Pour utiliser les fonctions de mise en cache, vous devez avoir un serveur web LiteSpeed ou utiliser un CDN QUIC.cloud. ” (= ~ “cache functions unavailable, you must use a Litespeed server or QUIC.cloud”)

I then did as said in this thread : disable/re-enable LScache in cPanel. BUT it did not work, the warning stays there…

First, I was not sure if I had to activate LScache “only” on the actual domain name, or also on host domain (xxxx.odns.fr). So I did some tests, and activated both of them.

But, when today I disabled LScache on cPanel (domain name only first), I got : https://ibb.co/C1Y4k20 … I don’t know how or why “ipXtender” went into the game, I never even opened that tab, if someone can help me understand it, would appreciate…

But the result was a misconfiguration on server side, as you can see here : “server config does exist but has a bad IP target” : https://ibb.co/yf39HVx

I did the same with the second line in cPanel (.odns.fr) and this time I got no server config at all (“use of litespeed/ipXtender or extremecache ?”): https://ibb.co/0qB6WWV … On cPanel, also ipXtender poped up…

I then decided to reset all to zero on cPanel. And re-enabled both. Now I can see for example in GTmetrix “HIT” in x-lsadc-cache (and terrible scores, as in lighthouse, page insight …even if I know it takes time), as you can see : https://ibb.co/9bV1dn8 , but not sure it’s well enabled in this plugin !! As there are some lines I don’t understand on the report tab of the toolbox. Here is the reference of my ticket : UXJRMNWD

So, to make short : when I disable LScache on cPanel, I get “LScache disabled BUT IP modified by “ipXtender”..”. If I then re-enable it I get “LScache active AND IP modified by ipXtender”, and misconfig of server…
So I did reset all to zero and did the job again, but (I know it takes some time to work but) I now am not sure wether or not Litespeed cache is working.

Last thing, there is one setting I cannot change, it’s to cache API REST… Each time I try, it says it was well recorded, but when I refresh the page, it does NOT stick (also in ticket). Can someone tell me why please ?

Thanks to whom will try to help me out, I’ll appreciate !!

    Hi @lsphoto

First, I was not sure if I had to activate LScache “only” on the actual domain name, or also on host domain (xxxx.odns.fr). So I did some tests, and activated both of them.

Lscache on the host domain should not be needed, unless you use that domain as a public domain… (not advised, no SSL possible etc.)

But, when today I disabled LScache on cPanel (domain name only first), I got : https://ibb.co/C1Y4k20 … I don’t know how or why “ipXtender” went into the game, I never even opened that tab, if someone can help me understand it, would appreciate…

This is normal. First activation of Lscache changes the IP address (otherwise no way for the server to know which requests to pass to litespeed and which not) but after deactivation the new IP remains activated for the domain (otherwise each de/activation will cause an IP change which will certainly cause accessibility problems). Hence ipXtender taking over the new IP, in wait for Lscache to be activated again. No need to worry about ipXtender mentioned there, either with or without Lscache.

But the result was a misconfiguration on server side, as you can see here : “server config does exist but has a bad IP target” : https://ibb.co/yf39HVx

This sounds like a problem. Is your site still accessible after such a message?

Question: is your DNS zone managed by o2switch? This is usually the case if you took hosting with included domain but if not, you’ll have to manually make sure the IP mentioned beside the domain after activating Lscache is also used in the A record in your domain DNS zone.

About the REST API setting not sticking: sounds like an unrelated bug so maybe best to create a new topic about that ??

    Hi @ravanh

    Thanks a lot !!

“Lscache on the host domain should not be needed, unless you use that domain as a public domain… (not advised, no SSL possible etc.)”

It makes sense, I was following o2switch documentation here, taht made me make that mistake : https://faq.o2switch.fr/hebergement-mutualise/tutoriels-cpanel/litespeed-lscache

So I’ve followed your advices and it’s working yet. Thanks also for explanation about ipXtender..

I did manage my DNS zone, and all is all right now (I tried to make an alias with my old site, but didn’t work..another non-related issue).
My site is well “available”, I just waited 24hours to see if it was ok, and it is thanks to you ??

I’ll ask about the REST API in a new thread.

I really appreciate your input, thank you very much !
