I’m trying to understand the relationship between the Cache Lifespan setting and the Preload setting.

    – Cache Lifespan set at 24 hours means that all the cached files are deleted every 24 hours, and new cache files are not created automatically, correct?

    – But if the option “Activate scheduled cache preloading” is activated, and set to “Same as cache lifespan” then the cache files will be automatically built again immediately after the cache lifespan has expired (and has deleted the cached files)?

    Thanks for the help ??

    Hi Alwin,

    That is correct.

Good to know I understand ??

One more question about the Cache lifespan setting. I read that it should be 10 hours by default:

    WP-Optimize – FAQs (getwpo.com)

However, when I install WPO it is set at 24 hours by default? So did WPO change the default Cache lifespan setting with a reasson?

Because as I understand best practice would be to set it at 10 hours max because of the possible issues with nonces?

That a very good question and an issue that I have flagged with our development team. We have an article regarding cache lifespan and in this we do say the default is 10 hours so I am not sure why it sets the default to 24: https://getwpo.com/faqs/what-is-cache-lifespan.

Hi @vupdraft, How can I find out whether my site use nonces feature? I have set cache lifespan to 0, so I can refresh preload when needed. Mostly once every week. Is this not advisable? I also try to understand all settings so I can set them properly.

    Your site will use Nonces

When managing a WordPress website, nonces are generated by WordPress itself in order to protect your URLs and forms from being misused.

The value you set for cache lifespan will ulitmately depend on how “static” the web site is and if you have globally present content. If you website is fairly static and you don’t use, for example a lot of widgets on every page, what you have set up should be ok.

Hello vupdraft, any update about the default Cache lifespan setting in WPO is set at 24 hours and not at 10 hours?

    One more question:

Preload now/Run now: Last preload finished at 17:15, 10/03/2023

But when I look in my server logs I see that WPO only preloaded 3 pages. My site has 100+ pages. Should the scheduled preload not preloading all pages on the site?

Hi @vupdraft, Great and thanks for the confirmation.
