cache directory does not exist

    I had big problems with this site. Now I try to fix them. One of my problems is that I get this error message:

    Error: Your cache directory (/home/xxx/public_html/wp-content) did not exist and couldn’t be created by the web server. Check /home/xxx/public_html/wp-content permissions.

    Cannot continue… fix previous problems and retry.

    I checked this with the hoster, and the cache folder is there, with the correct permissions. They advised to contact the developer. Which I duly do.

    How do I fix this problem?
