no, that should not be not correct; instead you should make sure AO is configured in such a way that the cache does not grow fast, by keeping “also aggregate inline JS” off and if needed also turn “also aggregate inline CSS” off.

getting over 500MB in less then 5 days for example?

so you recommend to delete that cache once a week?
or it gets to a certain size and stays around it, so no rush to purge cache?

Typically (when configured correctly) it should indeed get to a certain size and then stabilizes, so no rush indeed. I only do that a couple of times per year actually ??

what is a “warning sign” that the cache size is too large?

you’ll see a blinking red circle in the top admin bar instead of the green circle once 500MB is reached.
