I’ve been using WP-Optimize for some time with no issues. Since the recent update, I enabled the Cache feature on this site (simply clicking it on – GZip is enabled on the server) – and it broke. On a similar site with the same theme & plugins, nothing bad happens.
Here’s a screenshot of the end result: https://photos.app.goo.gl/YRd8di6emgcttZaT6

Actually, I just checked another site https://thebelltowercommunity.org/ – same theme, mostly the same plugins (no woocommerce) and the same thing happened – although it was running a caching plugin that I neglected to disable. The first site was not.

    Hi,

Just to confirm, you are running other caching plugins on your site?
If yes, I’m afraid you will need to deactivate to avoid conflict.
    Please see FAQ: https://getwpo.com/faqs/is-wpo-compatible-with-others-cache-plugins-like-wp-super-cache-or-w3-total-cache/

The first site I posted was not running any other caching plugin. Also true for this site which replicated the issue the moment I turned Caching on.

This looks to be something to do with serving a gzip-ed cache file to a browser that wasn’t expecting it. We will see what we can do to investigate.

P.S. Does your web hosting provider allow you to set up test sites? We’re thinking this is something specific to the hosting setup, that may not be easy to reproduce.

I have a relatively new (not really active) site I just tested it on and noticed something related to your comment about GZip.
Caching is currently ACTIVE on https://marketingyourdestination.com, however GZip is DISABLED – and it appears to work.
HOWEVER, that being said, some of the other sites show GZip as “active” from the server (not the plugin) and have that issue, with no way easily to disable it (not that I would wish to) – the odd thing is, ALL of these sites should have active GZip as they use the same PHP version with the same options!

SO… your supposition is correct as to what is causing the issue – why is another story.
FYI, it appears the same in either Mozilla or Chrome based browsers and even affects the login page.

If you need temporary access to a site, I can set you a login on this one.

Thank you. Don’t post any credentials in this forum – it’s public (and not permitted). Please can you fill the details in this form? https://getwpo.com/ask-pre-sales-question/

If you add the URL of this topic, and mention me, it’ll find its way to me. Don’t worry about the “Yes, I am asking a pre-sales question” checkbox (it has to be ticked to submit the form, but if you mention this URL, it won’t get deleted!).

To keep you updated – we’re trying to make sure we get this exactly right. We found a way to fix it for your site, but are reviewing carefully to make sure the technicalities are technically correct for all scenarios.

Please try again with the just-released WP-O 3.0.7 , and let us know how you get on!

Sorry for the late reply, just getting around to updating & testing now – and the verdict seems to be…all good!
I’ve tested with a site that originally “broke” and shows as “GZip enabled elsewhere…” and also with a site where it showed GZip ‘disabled’ (worked) and enabled it (still worked).

SO…whatever you tweaked seems to have done the trick. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if I missed anything.

    Cheers!
