• This plugin is very resource heavy and not appropriate for use in a shared hosting environment.

It generated way too many connections to the database and exceeded the limit of simultaneous connections my host allows (10).

As a result, my site went down as the connection with WordPress was broken.

Thankfully, I noticed that on time and thanks to great troubleshooting by my host’s tech support, the problem was able to be pinpointed quickly and the site came back up.

If you are in a shared hosting environment – stay away!

  • Thank you for the feedback, ginmi. We agree that the plugin is very resource intensive and is definitely not made for shared hosting environments, which realistically a huge portion of the WordPress market runs on.

For some backstory, when we initially launched Leadin, we focused on making something people love, and got to that goal quickly because we built Leadin on top of the core WordPress infrastructure. As time has gone on though, a few of our longer-term users are actually starting to run into problems where MySQL just isn’t scaling with the type of product Leadin is where we have to log every action a visitor takes.

Our goal is to bring inbound marketing software to the masses, and we realize keeping Leadin’s data in our user’s native MySQL just isn’t going to work long term, so we are actively working on a cloud-based version of Leadin that will store all your data on external servers to cut down on resource overheard. We know it’s a bit different than the standard WordPress plugin, but we’re trying to permanently fix the root of the issue while providing an amazing product. Are you interested in getting on the beta list for when we have that version ready for public use?

    Cheers!

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks for replying.

    Two points:

    1. You should be clearly warning people in the plugin description that it is NOT designed for use in a shared hosting environment. Not doing so is very irresponsible to the community given the vast majority of self-hosted wordpress sites in the world are on shared hosting.

    2. I don’t have any sites that I can test a beta product on but will be happy to try your cloud solution once it is fully released and ready for use in a SHARED hosting environment.

I am on a shared host and haven’t yet had a problem. I imagine this is directly related to the number of visitors to a site at one time.

I wonder if it’s possible to offer a version (or option within a version) that would reduce the database needs of the plugin for sites with heavy traffic?

@andy Cook: have you guys transitioned to the cloud solution yet or do you still rely on the user’s local MySQL and WordPress install to run this?

Hi ginmi, we are very close to releasing the cloud version of Leadin to fully replace the existing version 3.1.9 however there are still a few finishing touches needed.

The main things to be aware of if you would like to try out the cloud version of Leadin (v4.0.0) are:

    • We can’t migrate your existing data just yet (the migration process is still being refined).
    • The only ESP sync we support right now is MailChimp.
    • We’re not compatible with multi-site yet.

If you would like to go ahead and try out Leadin 4.0.0 you can read more about it and download it here: https://leadin.com/cloud-beta To be able to install it you will first need to deactivate and remove v3.1.9 and then install v4.0.0. This will leave your existing MySQL database tables intact, and once we do have a migration process built you will then be able to migrated your local Leadin data over to the cloud version of Leadin.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions about it.
