• Just had my Elementor Pro licenses for 2 production sites cancelled and de-activated (without notice) bc Elementor changed its policy regarding subscription renewals.

Standard operating procedure for all vendors in the WordPress ecosystem is – you can keep and use your licenses, even if you don’t renew, provided:

    • you don’t transfer those licenses (and most vendors don’t even enforce this provision).
    • you forfeit support.
    • you forfeit future upgrades.

Elementor is now saying you have to renew your license in perpetuity in order to keep a prod site up and running.

Elementor is clearly feeling the pain of competition that offers better functionality, faster response times, and better support. But the answer to competitive pressure is not to squeeze your existing customers with retroactive changes to your license policy.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the changes to our license policy.

At Elementor, we continuously review and update our policies to ensure we can provide the best possible service to our customers. The policy that requires renewal of licenses to keep a site up and running is part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of functionality, security, and support for all users.

We realize this may be different from the standard practices you’ve experienced with other vendors, but this approach allows us to ensure that all active sites have access to the latest features, updates, and security enhancements.

We appreciate your understanding and your continued support of Elementor. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.

    Best regards,

I don’t think you understand – when any vendor sells a software license, purchasers make a long-term decision to use that product based on the then-current software license agreement (SLA).

At the time I licensed your plugin, if a customer discontinued their subscription, there were no restrictions on the use of Elementor Pro – a developer could continue create and modify pages and posts.

I invested a considerable amount of time developing my site(s) with Elementor. While I do not need further software updates, I am legally entitled to use the software in accordance with the license granted when I purchased/last renewed my license.

Elementor has now retroactively changed the terms of the license, such that I can no longer modify pages and posts. This is not a case of simply being frustrated – Elementor is telling the developer community – we will change the license agreements anytime we want to squeeze as much revenue as we can from our customer base, because we think you’re a captive user.

But customers who cannot rely on their vendors to be ethical and reliable will find alternative solutions – just look at the other reviews in this forum that document Elementor’s arrogance towards its customers.
