Button in a Widget

I want to put an Amazon Link Button into a Widget I can put in a Sidebar.
I used a plugin called Widget Builder and simply created a Widget with the short code in it.
It didn’t work… I could see the Amazon Link button OK but a copy of the page was splashed over the top of it squished into the side bar. I suspect the builder plugin doesn’t work.
Do you know how to write these by hand? Maybe I just need to wrap the short code in some tags but I don’t know enough about it… any tips?
