Button alt text

Hi, I am using the slider view with the navigation buttons along the bottom. When I run a performance test, I get accessibility alerts since there is no alt text on the buttons that refers to the slide. When viewing with a screen reader, the only information given is “button,” with no information about what the button is for. Is there a way to somehow describe the button function?
