Hi, hopefully someone can shed some light on this, the Business Location within Square is greyed out, I’ve gone through the other threads with similar issues that mentions the SSL and hosting, both are fine as no changes/updates have been made.

Usually when this happens, I’ll click Disconnect from Square, reconnect, and get the message ‘You just authenticated Square!’, go back to admin within Woocommerce and I can select the location.

However, since this morning, after doing the above, its still greyed out and not allowing me to select the Business Location.

I am running an older version of the Square plugin – Version 1.0.38 – I’m reluctant to update it to the latest version as a few months ago I had to roll it back as the plugin started overwriting product descriptions within Woocommerce, and as they differ from Square, it was causing all manner of problems.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Also having the same issues with Version 1.0.38. Business Location is not populated after connecting with square. Any help please

    Hi @theshaman,

Thank you for reaching out to us here at Square! I understand your issue is that the Business Location is not able to be chosen when you have tried to sync WooCommerce with Square.

I also understand your version is 1.0.38

I’m reluctant to update it to the latest version as a few months ago I had to roll it back as the plugin started overwriting product descriptions within Woocommerce, and as they differ from Square

As of 2.0 Square changed to have a System of Record which can be set to WooCommerce or Square. In this manner, Square actually always overrides the Product Description as well as inventory. More on this can be seen at this link.

In this nature, Square will always now override the product description regardless of version. Also, the older version of Square (1.0.38) is over 2 years old, so its support will be spotty at best. If you need to continue using that version of the plugin, what you will need to do is disable it, uninstall it completely, clear any cache you have in the site (plugins or server side) and then re-install it and re-set it back up. This should allow the Business Location to show again.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the response @nixiack8, I’ll look into this today as yes, we can’t have the descriptions overwritten, Square only allows basic descriptions, and formatting gets lost, which doesn’t work for us.

I’ll report back soon with how I get on, and I’m really surprised there isn’t an option to disable overwriting product descriptions and titles, and just an option to sync inventory.

@nixiack8 I’ve now carried out what you suggested, deleted the plugin, cleared the cache, installed Version 1.0.38, but sadly it didn’t work, Business Location was still greyed out.

I then disabled all other plugins, with only Woocommerce active, repeated the above and again, Business Location is greyed out.

I thought I’d try updating to the latest version (2.5.3) to see if this fixed the issue (without running a sync), and yes, that worked as I was able to select the business location, so the problem is with the older version, which I’ve rolled back to 1.0.38 for the moment to see if that forced it, but again, Business Location is greyed out.

Unfortunately, that now puts us in a dilemma as there’s a 1000+ products on the site (and 100s of hours of work), but if I run the latest version, all the descriptions will be overwritten. Sadly, I don’t think we have any other option so I’m going to back up the product descriptions, and over time, put a basic description in Square, which really isn’t ideal, but seems the only way.

I really do think in a future update, an option to disable overwriting descriptions should be addressed as on the website we need a lot more detailed product information than what is needed on Square (looking at other threads, I’m not alone in this), and as Square is used in a physical shop as a POS, we must run it as Square being the system record.

Thanks for your help and I guess we’re now just going to have to bite the bullet and update to the latest version.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for the feedback!

Having on the latest version would really make sense. ??

Feel free to get back to us if that still doesn’t work after updating.

@nixiack8 @felipea8c I’ve now updated to the latest version (2.5.3), I can select the Business Location and, so far, everything seems OK.

Thanks for the response on this thread, I’ll mark it as resolved, but I still think there should be an option to only sync the inventory.

    Hi there!

Glad to know things are working as expected now.

I still think there should be an option to only sync the inventory.

    That’s a fair expectation.
