The setup screen looks nice and all but there are issues authenticating with gmail as the app is still set to dev mode on WP SMTP’s side and the pure SMTP (not smtp.com) mode doesn’t let you move past step 2.

There is a post in the support forum on a way to allow the Google app. The Google message is misleading as it makes it sound like it is WP SMTP’s app but really it is yours that you set up that is the issue. Follow the youtube video steps in that forum post for the answer.

Otherwise, the app seems to work though there are so many features locked behind a paywall. Everyone needs to eat though!

    Hi, @franktrog!

Thank you for your feedback and we apologize for the confusion here.

If you were “blocked” on the step after clicking on the “Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account” button you need to click on the Advanced link and click on Go to wpmailsmtp.com (unsafe).

As you’ve mentioned, you shouldn’t be worrying about this, as Google only displays this warning because it hasn’t verified your app. There is no need to verify it since you created this app just for your own use.

In case it helps, we describe this step in our guide here.

If you have some issues, we would be more than happy to assist you in getting WP Mail SMTP up and running on your end. Please know that you can use the WP Mail SMTP support forum where we provide free limited support. That would be the ideal location to share details of any issues or clarifications you might need.

    Kind regards.
