Bulk upload of avatars in BuddyPress

I have a bunch of files that need to be added as avatars for user profiles in BuddyPress. It doesn′t seem that BuddyPress allows you to configure the folder where avatars are stored and I couldn′t find any way to tell buddyPress the relationship between a given user and his/her corresponding file (I guess BuddyPress just takes the file it finds on the standard url path /avatars/userid/filename-bpfull)

Are you aware of any solution that can (semi)automate the process?
