Thanks for the Auto Image Attributes From Filename With Bulk Updater plugin!

I installed it on five sites and it works perfectly for the new images that I have uploaded.

When I use the Bulk Updater on those sites with only a few hundred images, it also works fine.

But when I use the bulk Updater on sites with a few thousand images, I have problems: on my site with 2,700 images, the plugin updated 1,200 images, then stopped.

The little ball keeps spinning eight hours later with no progress. When I tick the Stop Bulk Updater button, it does not stop.

    What should I do?

    Hello Neal,

Thanks for checking out the plugin and glad to hear it worked nicely on all but one sites.

For the site with 2700 images, can you try refreshing the page? The plugin saves the last updated image, so you will not have to redo all of them from scratch, it will start from where you left off.

Also, if you have object caching enabled, please disable it until the bulk updater completes.

Please let me know how that goes.

    Thanks for the response!

    The Updater reads:

    Number of Images Remaining: 1511
    Number of Images Updated: 597

I will begin the updating immediately and let you know what happens,

The updater is running and counting down from where it left off . . .

    Success!

    1. It took quite a while to update all the images.
    2. The Stop button did not work.
    3. As per your instructions, whenever the updating ceased, I refreshed the page and that worked each time.

Now I have two more even bigger sites to do!

    Thanks again.

    Hello Neal,

    Thanks for all the updates.

The most probable reason for the bulk updater to freeze is when the process runs out of resources and the PHP part of it stops, but the JavaScript keeps on spinning.

The Stop button needs the PHP part of it to complete. It is designed not to stop in the middle of updating a post so as not to corrupt anything. The STOP button in fact initiates the stop process which only completes when the current iteration is complete.

Glad it worked out. Hope it works out on other sites as well ??

Thanks! I just started updating another site with 2,700 images.

About the Stop button “designed not to stop in the middle of updating a post so as not to corrupt anything”: you might want to mention that in the installation section so other non-tech users like me don’t freak out and think there is something faulty with your plugin or their website.

    Keep on keepin’ on!
