    Hello,
I’m trying to use Imsanity to batch scale oversized images that were uploaded to the server prior to migrating to WordPress 5.3. We have also arrived at an optimal maximum image size of 2560×2560 px. I also decided to use the Image Magick engine (in CLI mode) and higher quality images since the image processing will not be final and the cloud service will take care of the smaller sizes.

However, I have a problem with the way Imsanity works. If it encounters an oversized image it will shrink it without using Image Magic and will not write the actual dimensions of the image so there is a violation of the integrity of the information.

For example: in the media library I see an Imsanity column and a dimension of 2560w x 1799h and then a Dimension w * h column in px: 6911 x 4856. If I click on edit image, the dimensions are again not updated and if I download the image and check the dimensions, the image is correctly scaled according to the specified criteria. I don’t know what to do, I guess I have to restore the site from backup or is there any way to update the image sizes?

We then plan to remove the oversized originals from the site and I found an excellent tool for this in ewww optimizer, for which I thank you very much!

    Thanks for the support,
    regards,
    Jiri

    Hi Jiri,

I’m not sure I’m following fully. In the Imsanity column, are you seeing two dimensions displayed? Or, I guess it sounds like it’s a different column altogether titled ‘Dimensions’ correct? Is that the Image Magick column? It sounds like there may be some type of conflict where one service is getting it done before the other and possibly making it so that the original can’t be updated (unless you run it again as you said). But yeah, if that’s the case, I think the only way to get it to reprocess those images in bulk would be to restore it.

    Hi Adam,
yes, I can see that after batch rescaling the images with Imsanity, it doesn’t update the image size as it should. I have an Imsanity column in my media library and one more image dimension. I also checked this in the detail and it also shows the wrong image size that was valid before scaling.
Image Magick does not have any column information, but in the image editing detail it shows information if this engine was used when scaling the image. There I learn that it was not and that is also a pity, because it achieves better results.
I am currently in the state of having restored the entire site to its pre-batch processing state using Imsanity, and the image size data in the database is now consistent.
So for now, I have postponed action and don’t really know what to do next.

    Important information:
    WP 5.8
    Imsanity latest version
    WPML active
    MLA active

If you have any ideas, I’ll be happy to provide debugging information.

    Ragards and thanks,
    Jiri

I think I am having a similar issue. I am testing the plugin to have images with a max height of 660 pixels. And although the imsanity column in the Media Library says the image now has a height of 660 pixels, the images displays still in the original size. Furthermore on the Edit Media page of the image, the original size is still shown, not the corrected size.

Are you seeing the dimensions in the information on the right when you click on the image from your media library? For reference, if the image dimensions are a part of the file name, those most likely won’t be updated. Or, if you download the image and view the properties, does it show the correct size?

    Hi,

Yes, the information on the right when clicking on the image in the image library, shows the original image size.

For reference, more for norbou’s issue, if you aren’t using the PHP Imagick extension, then it won’t work. Would you mind please sending in a support request to https://ewww.io/contact-us/ and, if possible, please include screenshots or a screencast of what you are doing/seeing?

    Thanks
