This issue is not caused by the plugin but nonetheless critically affects it.

When automatically updating my plugins in bulk, the process hung and ended up failing on this plugin:

The plugin editorial-calendar/edcal.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

It’s worth highlighting that the plugin is alphabetically last in my plugin list therefore the failure may or may not be specific to this plugin.

Either way, I had to manually delete and reinstall the plugin. This resulted in a loss of all scheduled data.

The purpose of this topic is simply to share the knowledge with the plugin developers though it doesn’t seem like action is necessary on their part.

As advice for others, back-up before updating plugins, avoid bulk updating of plugins (other issues occur such as your website being taken offline during maintenance and unexpectedly hanging). Also, it may be worth checking if data can be preserved via the back-end databases before manually reinstalling and wiping potentially salvageable data.

In any case, thank you for well designed and well built plugin.

Thanks for letting me know about this issue. I’m sorry if you lost any data.

Were you able to find out what happened? Normally deleting and reinstalling the calendar doesn’t affect anything since the calendar doesn’t store any special data.

    Thanks,
    Zack

I’m mistaken. The scheduling data is intact. I simply didn’t toggle back far enough in the calender and prematurely assumed the worst.

By “scheduling data” I was originally referring to entries as they appear in the calender and not the post drafts. Based on your explanation, your plugin doesn’t actually store values for each scheduled draft; instead, it represents the scheduled drafts graphically based on data that WordPress stores by default.

Thanks for the explanation. For clarification for other users and as a correction to my previous post, despite the potential bug with WordPress’s bulk plugin updater, the editorial calender plugin and any data pertinent to scheduled drafts remains unaffected.

Thanks for the update. I’m glad you didn’t lose any data.
