Bulk import of folders gets deadlocks

Hello all!
I have my own server with a WordPress installation. When I go to Nextgen Gallery / Add Gallery / import Folder and select a folder with subfolders and various jpgs, the process does not end. It seems to be a deadlock.
In the Chrome console (network) I see a new entry “admin-axax.php” every few minutes.
But it doesn’t seem to go forward, not for days and hours.
How can I test this, fix it or at least find the error?
