Buld uploader not working as of 10-16-13
-
This plug-in would save me so much time, but it does not work.
I select my .csv and hit upload and I get an error, ‘no file selected’.
Any help?
Mike

Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear that.
I have tested this very recently with no problems so I’m interested in finding out what your issue is here.
This uses the standard HTML multipart/form-data form to send the file to the server so nothing out of the ordinary to get the file to the script.
Is that your exact error, “no file selected”? because that is not one generated by me. The first error that I generate that is generic is “Invalid File”.
I look forward to your reply.
I’m also having trouble getting this to work. Every time I try to upload the CSV I get ‘invalid file’.
I have 100’s of old products on my eCommerce store where they don’t exist any more, so I was hoping to redirect all those non-existent pages to my homepage. Can this do this? And if so, how do I get it to work?
Ben
Hi Yifa,
Are you setting your CSV file up like the example CSV? The CSV should be formatted into 2 columns, first row being the old URL and the second column being the new URL.
You can certainly redirect all your URL’s to the homepage, but that functionality is covered by the Simple 301 Redirects plugin, not this. This just gives you a way to upload multiple urls at once into that plugin. If your having issues with the URL’s themselves not redirecting, then that plugins forum is the better place to go.
Here’s a quick video that shows the error. https://screencast.com/t/77UFcpYH
My .csv exactly matches your format. If you want to contact me off the forum at [email redacted] I’d be happy to show you the actual file and the site.
I’m ready to go on htaccess and plan to do it tomorrow, so look forward to your reply.
Thanks, Ash!
I tried putting in the full url (https://www.domainname.com.au/product/123) and also tried /product/123/ in the first column, and https://www.domainname.com.au/ in the second. Is this not correct?
Hi Guys,
I have some smashing news for you. I know what the problem is.
Firstly, Mike, thank you so much for the video, it helped confirm what the problem is. However, what you put ‘inside’ the rows isn’t what the error is hitting as the error you receiving means the script can’t even read the file.
The issue is actually because …. your using a PC! I originally built this for a client and they had the same problem you have today. They sent me the file, I tried it, worked straight away. It then hit me that the file uploads run slightly different between OS’s, and I asked what they were using, they said PC (I’m on a Mac most of the time). I have now tried this on my PC and I get it too, then watching your video, noticed your Excel was in a windows view. I do recall in past experiences with HTML file uploads, with there being a difference in the way the temp file is read between OS’s.
So, I know ‘what’ the problem is, and will release a new version as soon as I get that sorted.
Extremely sorry for the inconvenience with this.
yifa I’d just like to repeat that if you need assistance with the Simple 301 Redirects functions itself your best to go on its forum, however, in my experience of the plugin, I have always used relative URL’s with it (ie /old-page/ and /new-page/) although I’m sure to will work with absolute URL’s too.
Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that Version 1.0.1 is available with what should fix your issue!
Please let me know how you go. If it continues to fail for you, I have got to to return some data about the file that I may possibly need to get it to work. However, I think we have it dusted now ??
Thanks again for your input guys
Sorry, Ash, still does not work. I gotta move on to .htaccess. Thanks for trying.
btw, the link to your site in the plug-in is a 404
Hi Mike,
That is most unusual. Are you able to provide me with the output of the error your given on screen. It could be as simple as the filetype for your OS.
And cheers for the update. I’ll get that fixed up in the next version.
Hi Mike,
I am hoping you can help me.. I am having issues importing. I get the following error:
——————-
Invalid file. Use the below for debugging and when asking for support.File: Array ( [name] => 301-example.csv [type] => text/comma-separated-values [tmp_name] => /tmp/phpRKhPAt [error] => 0 [size] => 25 )
——————–
I tried just uploading a CSV file creating in NOTEPAD containing:
“/bug-mest.htm”,”/tesrt/”
and still no joy. Any advice would be great
ThanksHi jwhawkes,
Unsure if Mike can help you there, but I certainly can ??
I see the issue is the ‘type’ that is being passed back (which I feel is the same issue Mike is having!)
I will add that type to the list and release an update. I wont be able to publish it for at least another 5-6 hours, but i’ll let you know here when I do.
Thanks for posting your error here! It helps a great deal!
Cheers
Ash
Hey Guys,
Version 1.0.2 has a larger list of mime types for CSV’s that should hopefully cover everybodies systems. If you find your still having trouble, please post the error array.
Thanks
Ash
I’m on Version 1.0.2 and I’m getting the following error:
Invalid file. Use the below for debugging and when asking for support.
File: Array ( [name] => 301-example.csv [type] => application/octet-stream [tmp_name] => /tmp/phpV7J6i4 [error] => 0 [size] => 54956 )
Thanks
Hey cthomas81,
Sorry about that, the generic type slipped through the cracks.
I’ll get that updated in the next few hours.
Thanks!
Hey cthomas81,
1.0.3 contains the mime type you are having issues with. Please update and let me know how you go.
Cheers
Ash
