• Hi all, another newbie question.
I have been trying to use the built in photo gallery in WP 2.7.1. I have uploaded a number of images in the media library, but when trying to assemble the photo gallery, only a fraction of the photos show in the “gallery” section of the library.
Question is, how do I populate the photo gallery with images, and / or how do I transfer the existing photos in the media library to show up in the photo gallery?

  • The ‘gallery’ option only works for images that were uploading whilst you were creating/editing the relevant posts/pages.

Uploading an image whilst working on a post/page creates an association between the post/page and the image. WP uses this association to create that post/page’s gallery. So you can’t just upload images to the Media Library and then create a gallery from them using WP’s gallery shortcode on any random page/post.

Perhaps you might be better off using a photo gallery plugin?

That explains it! A plugin it is.
NextGEN appears to be a popular one to use. I am fairly new to WP, I have done more reading about it than playing with it.
    Thanks for the help.
