• I’m setting up a new blog which is going to contain mainly posts with images. I’ve been considering different ways of handling the images and is down to three alternatives: writing my own plugin (I’ve written one with limited functionality), the built-in gallery tag and Nextgen gallery.

One thing I really want to have is a lightbox effect. I want to be able to display several thumbnails in one post and then click on one, get the enlarged version of the photo and be able to go backwards/forwards by using the arrow keys/clicking. using the lightbox 2 plugin for the lightbox effect.

When I play with the built-in gallery tag and click on a thumbnail I’m taken to a new page which display a larger version of the photo, when I click that photo I get the lightbox effect.

So my question is: if I use the built-in gallery function is there some way to avoid that extra page?
