• Hi!

    Wondering if anyone could help.

I have inherited a static HTML site, hosting on 1&1 and I use Firezilla FTP Client to upload HTML files..

I am about to start creating a WordPress site, while the static HTML site is online and then when it is complete make
the WordPress site live and hopefully keep the current HTML static site in a subdirectory so it can still be accessed (it’s got 200+ pages).

Seen a thread saying the best way to do this would be to install WP in a subdirectory and work from there, then when it’s done put the WP site in the root and put the current in
    a directory…

Could anyone assist me on this further? I need help installing WP straight into a subdirectory without affecting anything on the static site?

Then help me further down the line when I then make the WP site live and static site in the directory. Also would I be able to keep the WP site so it can’t be accessed publically??

    Many thanks in advance!!!!

    Ste.

This contract has given me a website, and I’ve done a 1 click install on there.

Is it easy for me to just create the entire wordpress website on this address then when it is ready move the current static HTML site into a subdirectory and make this one active in the root?

I see you are still going with this @scr_17

Yep, I would personally create the new site on a seperate domain now you have one, and then when ready, ask 1&1 to put the current live domain onto the Linux hosting.

Once that is done, you will then be able to just use a plugin called Duplicator which will do everything for you

@innuvo Yeah, haha it’s developed somewhat since my original thinking!

Yeah – I am just going to develop it on the free domain they have given me s8****.websitehome e.g. then move the current live domain onto Linux.

Will moving loads of static HTML pages onto a Linux server disrupt anything? Also will have to move all that into a subdirectory so will have to find a way how to keep all the links working… But not gonna worry about all that until I’ve built it. Least I can finally start building the site now!

    Thanks guys.
