• Hello.

I am working on a multi-language site (currently two languages).
After some research, and the wish to utilize a specific domain for each language (meineseite.de adn mysite.com), I originally decided to go with the multisite route, and a plugin called “Multisite Language switcher”. I however am wondering if a multisite for two language really is making sense?

The site will be much more than a simple landing page, will have a growing numer of articles – at least that’s the idea ??
For me it is very difficult to find relevant information (with two domains) on a two- or multilanguage site.

Anybody experienced here who could tell me about his thoughts/best practices and the reasoning behind?

Maybe there are groups somewhere, who are all about multilanguage and wordpress? If so: Please point me there.

  • I have a couple multi-language sites and use GTranslate for dynamic translation. In the first case, the website audience is localized and the translations available are for the benefit of the local community. In the second instance, the audience is worldwide. In both cases English is the primary language so the domain names are English. The translations appear as sub-directories (e.g. domain.org/de/page-name). My recommendation is to do something similar. Have the primary language dictate the domain name and then use either sub-directories or sub-domains for the translations.

Thank you. I see, with your installation approach you can (relatively easy) use a regular site, because of one single domain.

I am stuck with two domain names, one for each language. So it makes me wonder, if/how the two domains could point to the same page, and every language sees it’s specific domain… Any idea?
