• I built a nice site for a client with this theme a couple of years ago, but then they replaced WordPress’s Customize with their own version, and released a number of updates that caused problems on the site, so I was pretty unhappy with WPHoot and wished I had used a different theme.

However, they have returned to the standard Customize interface, and it’s been quite awhile since an update caused issues.

There are a lot of nice options in this theme that are hard to find in free themes – numerous page templates to choose from, and also numerous choices of how to divide up your footer space, choices about which meta items to display (author, date, category, etc.), not only on posts, but on pages, and a couple of built-in sliders.

They use widget areas for the special front page layout, as do many themes, which can be confusing when you try to figure out which content is in which widget area, but there are helpful instructions built right in to Customize.

There are also a couple of front page sliders, which I have not used, but I’ll come back and update this review if I get a chance to.

Support for free users is not rapid, but it is courteous and helpful. Considering that many themes with a paid version don’t offer support to their free users at all, I am happy with that.

I originally rated this theme three stars (would’ve made it 2.5 if I could), but now I feel it deserves 4, and may even upgrade that to 5 once I have a chance to try it out on a new site.
