BUG? Users can join membership level twice

    I have a 30 day free membership level (which expires after 30 days). If a person is logged in, they can apparently join that level again, and it will extend their current expiration date by another 30 days.

    If a user is registered and has a membership level, shouldn’t the system block a user from additional purchases for their existing membership level?

    And if they did do a duplicate purchase of their existing membership level, shouldn’t it block them from extending their expiration date?

    And once their free membership expires, shouldn’t they be prohibited from being able to re-join the limited term free membership?

    I appreciate any feedback. If there is code I need to use to fix this issue by hand, please advise. Thank you.

    Hi Penny,

    Thank you for getting in touch and using Paid Memberships Pro. I sincerely apologize for the issue you are experiencing and I will try my best to assist you.

    Paid Memberships Pro, by default allows users to renew their membership level when it comes close to expiring, for example +/- a month before it expires. So if a user checks out for your 30 day membership and in 10 days into their membership they renew it, another 30 days will be added onto this user’s membership.

    If a user already has a membership, be it a different membership. They will be able to upgrade/downgrade their membership level as they please. You may change this with some code for PMPro.

    By default we do not restrict users from renewing free levels as each site is rather unique and maybe another user would want users to be able to renew a free membership and update their details whereas another user would like to only allow users to checkout to a free level (trial) once.
