Bug Report (Checkbox not working in search)

Hello,
I am testing the latest version of your plugin to see if I can implement it on my site and I found what I believe to be a bug. I created a field as a checkbox which shows up fine in UM’s profile edit page, but when I add it to the UM search form it shows as a dropdown. Also, How do I change the color of the dropdown selection background highlight, it shows as a default light blue with dark grey text which makes the text hard to see (this happens in the [admin] back end, too).
I know for the next question you’re going to tell me it requires customization, but maybe you can tell me which files have to be edited:
Is there a way to use the ultimate member custom fields in my themes user profile edit and display? In other words, I wish to use my theme’s user profile page, but I want to add custom fields to it using UM custom fields. Can you give me some direction? Thank you
