• At least, according to the wp_query object, the only thing that’s true about what my homepage is_ is that it is_404. I was trying to troubleshoot the kubrick 1.3a theme using the CVS version (at 10:00 PM 9 October 2004) and apparently the main page is a 404.
So, can anyone help me out? Why would this be happening? I am trying to follow the path of the data, but I’m new to the wordpress code (and then some!) so I’m not totally sure what’s being passed around here.

  • I have what might be a similar problem. Fresh install of WordPress (1.5.2) on DreamHost, htaccess is all set up for the permalinks, the works.

If I access any page BUT the home page, it works fine. If I access the home page (which calls index.php which calls my wp-blog-header file), it pauses a bit and I get a “Not Found” page. See this page (note the explicit index.php) to reproduce the issue. As a temporary band-aid I have an extra htaccess rule that translates ^$ to /index.php?year=2005 but that’s not going to fill the bill long term.

FWIW, I also read WP ticket 353 on what appears to be the same subject. The only thing is I’m on a more recent version than what is stated in the ticket (when the issue was resolved/closed).

    Clues welcome! Thanks.

Still having this problem (previous post). Still trying to hunt the root cause down. Clues still welcome/appreciated.

Well, the first thing you need to realize is that you won’t really get support on the “non-stable” versions here – (which applies really only to the OP).

Dreamhost seems to be a “separate set of circumstances” as regards WP. Suggest doing an exhaustive search-and-read using “dreamhost problems” as the search keywords.

Dreamhost has some really weird PHP configuration values from what I hear. Far from a “dream” host if you ask me.
