If I add the “table of contents block” to my own post, the website breaks due to a javascript error:

wordpress JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON data at line 1 column 4172 of the JSON data wp-table-of-contents

This is because you try to parse the JSON content of the headers, these are the headings of the post. However, if you include symbols like > or < (bigger than), it will result into the error above within your javascript code.

I needed to change my heading title in order to use the Table of Contents block.

Thanks in advance, for fixing this issue!

    Regards,
    Melroy vd Berg

  • Hello @danger89 ,

That’s really strange! I have tested the same at my end and it seems to be working fine. I have created a video for you, please have a look.

Could you please confirm if you are using the latest version of UAG? Can you please check once after re-installing the Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg plugin?

Let me know how it goes. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,
    Sweta

Sorry my email was setup wrong for this wordpress account. So I didn’t receive any notification about any reply.

I will look soon into this issue, ok?!

@swetakumari In your demo video you did NOT include the any “>” or “<” symbols in your heading name.

In my first post I said:

This is because you try to parse the JSON content of the headers, these are the headings of the post. However, if you include symbols like > or < (bigger than), it will result into the error above within your javascript code.

Anyway, with the the latest of the table of contents block this issue looks like to be resolved. I can now indeed use ‘<‘ or ‘>’ symbols in my heading name.
