Thanks for reaching out. I checked this and I can confirm the same issue when adding a BuddyPress photo. I’ll need to check this further in order to determine more on this, I suspect BuddyPress doesn’t fully support WebP modifications at this time. From some checks it looks like there was a patch released, with details below:

While I’m checking this further, there is a workaround which you can apply for the time being. You can allow both JPEG and WebP files to be generated with the Performance Lab plugin, as opposed to only using WebP. You’ll find this configuration from “Settings > Media > GenerateJPEG files in addition to WebP“.
