    For this one, have you considered to use BUddyBoss?

    BuddyBoss is an enhanced version of BuddyPress who already has the following feature:

    We will not release support for the BuddyPress Followers plugin since it has not been updated from the last 6 years and updated plugins like this one could open a security breach in your site

    The most recommended is always to use up-to-date and maintained plugins to avoid any security hole
