I installed the Amazon S3 Uploads plugin and am now having a problem that the site members formerly uploaded avatars and the group thumbnail images are not displaying. All the other images that were in the uploads folder are displaying correctly, but I can’t get the thumbnails to show for the groups and avatars.

I don’t know if it matters, but I also don’t see that our images were uploaded with the same folder hierarchy that was on our original server. They seem to all have been dumped into the same AWS bucket with no folders.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more information.

I take it back… the folder hierarchy is there. There are just so many images in there and it is sorted by name instead of file type so I couldn’t see it until I scrolled WAY down. So the images all appear to be in the correct place, they are just not loading in buddypress.

What plugin do you use for avatars? Is it only the avatars that does not show up, or all the images?

Hi atvdev… thanks for the reply. I don’t use any special plugins for the avatars. We are using buddypress, so it could be something to do with that plugin. All the other uploads work, but I have since disabled the plugin since I couldn’t get the user and group avatars to work correctly. Let me know if additional information would be helpful… I’ll be happy to provide anything I can if it will be helpful.

All the blog post images were fine… I didn’t really mention that in the previous reply.

This can only be fixed if I make the plugin to upload the files directly to S3. But this makes image uploading slower, as the image first uploads to your server, then to S3 and after all thumbs are uploaded to S3. So I am not sure if this is a good solution.

Also WordPress 3.5.2 have a bug which disables making the plugin to upload the files directly to S3. When the patch is released, I will review if it is worth it.

Thanks atvdev. I ended up switching over to W3 Total Cache and was able to have the avatars still load from the local server and all the other images from my S3/Cloudfront distribution.
