Buddypress Activation Email Not Being Sent

I have the most recent versions of Buddypress and s2memeber (Free Version) installed and activated on my site. I was checking functionality and came across a problem. I am using the Buddypress registration form because the free s2member plugin does not offer that feature. After a new member registers they are sent to the “You will recieve and emial page to activate account”, but the email does not get sent. What could be causing this? Please help.
