Actually with the preload option, having only the homepage and pages flagged it works pretty well.
The homepage, for visitors not logged in refreshes every few minutes. that’s ok.
I think I forgot in my first attempt to clear the cache after setting the preload options.
But any other recommendation is welcome!

wpfc is not compatible with Buddypress

Honestly I think I have a good solution using wpfc.
Basically preloading the homepage and the other buddypress pages frequently and not showing the cached version to logged in users, the casual visitors get the page in a bit more than 1 second which is awesome.
When a user logs in then the speed gets slower, but not so bad.
Do you think I can activate another caching plugin on top of wpfc to have, eg, also object caching? Or could that cause conflicts?

I honestly don’t know if that would help. Best would be to have a frequent preload of the forums, replies and buddypress activity pages so that the users that are not logged in might miss the real-time but on the other hand they will have super fast pages. Also if that could be a challenge if a site has hundreds of forums.
But the preload I find a super feature. I think that playing with that could help a lot. If only it could have specific options for forums and activities that could be a cool thing, also if maybe it’s already doing that as part of the pages. I mean the containing page gets preloaded and then when the users click on the specific forum then no caching is done. That should also be fine.
When the user logs in then it’s true that there is not much benefit and therefore my question if object caching or opcode caching provided by W3 (for example) could be added on top. I’ve now activated that to see if there is any improvement.
At a first sight I don’t see huge improvements.

Not sure about that. Is there a way I can test that? Can I trust what the browser inspector (network) says?
What I guess is that the global pages like “members” or “groups” or the “homepage / activity” are cached, but each forum post or each activity entry I don’t know if ends up in the custom taxonomies or post types.
BTW, if a page is trashed, will it be ignored by the preload process?

I’m now testing another caching plugin that should be officially compatible with buddypress and also trying to play a bit with cloudflare.
So far wpfc seems to win the speed test.
