    I created a new self-hosted blog over the weekend and moved my old blog across from Blogger, all with no problems. The site was working perfectly last night, but this morning I’m unable to get it to load.

    Chrome & Safari on my Mac, and IE on a Windows machine are all giving me similar messages: “…could not connect to https://www.fitbodiesfood.com”. Weirdly, I was able to view the blog via my phone browser (it’s a Windows phone, running IE) – it’s not a cached view, as I hadn’t previously used the phone to access the site.

    Of course, because I can’t get to my blog, I also can’t get to my dashboard. I don’t think it’s a server problem with my host – at least, there are no messages on their site advising of any problems.

    I’m a novice at this, so I’d appreciate any suggestions – preferably in simple language that any idiot can understand. ?? Thanks!

  • This may be a result of the port. How did you do it exactly, I’m asking because WordPress has their own brand of PHP that is required to run the site. If you can post at least the code to your index page through a service like https://pastebin.com/ we will be happy to double check this for you.

    WordPress has their own brand of PHP that is required to run the site.

    Where did you get this info from?

    @kek1960

    Perhaps you could try putting up a test index.html page on your site and see if you can access it? That’ll let you know whether it’s a server problem. If that works, try a test PHP file.

    fonglh,

    Do you know PHP? If so you would know something such as the_title() is not true PHP. As I mentioned pastebin your code and I will be happy to take a look.

    Yes I do know PHP. Something like the_title() is a WordPress defined function. It’s still PHP.

    That does not mean that WordPress is somehow using another custom version of PHP, which is what your original statement implies.

    The point here is that WordPress is using custom PHP and Blogger is incompatible in that sense, assuming Blogger is even using PHP. Think a little, I’m attempting to help and we don’t need this petty nonsense.

    @kek1960,

    Your site is loading for me in all browsers. I can see the WordPress 2011 theme with your most recent post: “Welcome to the new home of Good Food” on the front page.

    @doc4

    If the site was ported over previously with no problems, the porting was probably just a data transfer. Thus whether Blogger uses PHP has nothing to do with it because the site will now be using a WordPress theme.

    I know you’re trying to help, what I’m pointing out is that your statement on ‘custom PHP’ is confusing because it implies that some special version of PHP is required to run WordPress, which is not the case.

    I’m trying to help too by pointing this out so no one goes barking up the wrong tree worrying about whether a special version of PHP is necessary.

    @kek1960

    I’m sorry for the above distraction. Your site still doesn’t load for me. Post more info and we’ll try to help you get it up.

    @rachelbaker – thanks, that’s really odd…

    @fonglh & @doc4 – I’m using Godaddy as my host, will go have another look around over there, try the things you’ve suggested and report back.

    OK, I’ve pasted the contents of the index php file here: https://pastebin.com/6F1Gkz5c

    According to Godaddy, my site is fine (my husband ran diagnostics a short while ago. Unlike me, he has half a clue about this stuff, but he can’t figure out this issue).

    I’m using the twenty eleven template, so nothing funny there.

    Any ideas?

    Update: A friend advised last night that she’d been able to access the site, and leave a comment. I was still unable to get it to load.

    Still no joy this morning. ??
