On two sites, both using Chrome, as soon as I installed SEO Framework my browser started locking up with Chrome using a large amount of memory while editing the SEO Settings. I can restart the browser, go to any number of sites, and then within about a minute of opening up the SEO Settings it freezes up again.

This doesn’t seem to happen in Firefox.

    Hi @lsilver,

    Thanks for the bug report!

Do you remember what steps you took before it locked up?
    Some examples:
    1. Filling in the home page title/description.
    2. Switching tabs.
    3. Closing metaboxes.
    4. Selecting social image.
    5. etc.

    Thanks!

As soon as I start editing the home page title it freezes up – two sites although same server and same computer. Only happens in Chrome, not FF. Haven’t tried IE.

    Hi @lsilver,

I just tested this out on Windows 10, and GC (JavaScript memory Garbage Collection) takes proper care of this.

Could you list the following details?
    1. Operating System (e.g. Windows 7, MacOSX Sierra).
    2. The SEO Framework version.
    3. WordPress version.

    Thanks!

    Hi @lsilver,

I took the liberty of opening a GitHub issue. Because unfortunately, I couldn’t confirm the issue with your specifics.
    GitHub issue 105

I hope to get more insights on this ASAP, because I understand this is very annoying for you. Luckily, you can safely work with Firefox in the meantime ??

    Have a wonderful Monday!

Hello @lsilver, I am using latest chrome and I can’t replicate your problem on my low-end notebook, however i experience chrome “locking up” when using visual composer or/and revo slider. are you running those on your installation side by side with TSF by any chance?

Or there might be something wrong with your chrome installation, maybe some extension or antivirus is conflicting.

Could you install chrome canary and check out if issue persists? Ideally, do not even sign into chrome or install any extensions, just pure canary, log into your site and try replicating the issue. Canary installation is separated, so this way you can at least rule out corrupted chrome.

Interesting test. So I installed Canary and was able to make changes to the Home page title without issue. I then immediately opened Chrome and within about 15 seconds saw my memory spike and browser lock up requiring a shutdown of Chrome.

I’ll re-install Chrome and see if that changes anything.

    That’s great to hear!

I do wish to ask the following to see where this conflict originates:
Which browser extensions do you use? Maybe, simply deactivating a single extension will solve the issue! Then I can apply a patch if possible ??

I uninstalled Chrome (preserving Bookmarks, extension history, etc.) and then reinstalled.

Went back to SEO Settings > Home Page Title and the issue persisted. I saw CPU usage from Chrome climb from about .5% to over 50%, and memory usage climb from 150MB to 195MB.

    I deactivated all extensions.

    Same thing.

Anything else to test? If it’s just my computer than it is what it is and I’ll have to figure out a workaround.

I completely removed Chrome again – but this time everything. And then reinstalled. That seems to have fixed the issue. Looks like a memory leak problem but one that I was only experiencing when editing that particular field, odd. Thanks for the help.

    Hi @lsilver,

I’m sorry to see you had to go through all those steps ??
I’ll definitely keep an eye out on that input field, but so far I couldn’t see any cause for conflict.

If you find yourself stuck again in this situation, do let me know! We might be able to find a permanent solution through some debugging ??

    Have a wonderful day!
