Browser language not detected

  • I have two languages in my Polylang setup: German and English. Under “Languages” I set English as default language (star symbol).

    My problem:
    When I visit the website with a browser whose language is solely German I do NOT see the German version of my website but the English version.

    My goal:
    When the browser language is German or German is on top of the preferred browser languages then for website visitors the German homepage will be loaded, otherwise for all other browser languages the English version should be loaded.

    Under “Settings” I have “Detect browser language” activated.

    Is this behavior a bug?
    How can I solve this?

  • I have the same issue, but with Google Chrome Windows desktop (latest version) only so far.
    Testing with Mozilla Firefox desktop version on Win/Linux seems to be working fine, also on Google Chrome mobile version (Android) and Linux desktop version as well.
    iOS Safari works OK too.

    In my case deactivating WP Fastest Cache helped.
