Broken unfortunately

This handy plugin has not seen any updates for a couple years, and unfortunately the latest nextgen update has broken it. I know it was the Photocrati NextGen update because it was working on WordPress version 4.0 until the NextGen Gallery update to 2.0xx Really would be great if someone could pick this up again, OR point out another way to embed youtube using static images. This plugin did a beautiful job, R.I.P. NGG Video Extend.
