I updated the Ignite theme yesterday and today my site was running a different theme (the default Twenty Fourteen)…I scrolled down to the bottom of the Appearance –> Themes page and this is what I see:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    Ignite Template is missing.

…any suggestions how to fix this? I am by no means an expert. Just thinking I must have done something wrong along the way..

This has happened to me before as well. It’s a rare occurrence, nothing you’ve done wrong, just a thing that happens sometimes.

Are you able to delete Ignite from your Appearance menu? If not, you’ll just need to use FTP. If you’re not familiar with FTP, it’s simply a way of accessing the files on your server so that, in this case, you can delete the Ignite theme.

Your host likely has cPanel or a member area with an FTP client in it. If not, you can probably ask and have them delete it for you. The theme is located in “wordpress/wp-content/themes/ignite”

Once it’s deleted, you can then reinstall and activate it, and it will be good as new.

Your posts, images, and settings in Ignite have not been and will not be affected by any of this.

So helpful, thank you!! I just did as you suggested and deleted the theme using FTP and reinstalled it and everything’s back.

Hopefully this isn’t a regular occurrence!

    Thanks again,

    Laura,

You’re welcome, glad you got it fixed ??

The same thing just happened to me, but deleting the theme and reinstalling it doesn’t fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

Hmm if you’ve completely deleted the theme, it’s very unlikely that the install would fail again by chance.

Could you try installing a different theme and see if you have the same error?
