I was using the Author theme, no child. Then it started looking like this. I switched to another theme but it didn’t change. I installed a completely brand new one and tried that one. Same issue. Removed all the other themes but Twenty Twenty and Twenty Fifteen. Deactivated any plugin that was on this site but none of my others (only one but I turned off anything that wasn’t needed.

BUT if I use Twenty Twenty theme? All is well. I’d stick with it and save myself the frustration except it has no sidebar. I went and installed/activated Twenty Fifteen and it was broken again (this is the current active theme). It only works with Twenty Twenty.

    Whhhyyyyy?
    What is borked?
    How can I fix it?
    Reinstall a previous backup?

    Thank you.

  • I would suggest that the stylesheet is not loading because it is http instead of https. Fix that.

Your site is referencing resources (several) from your other website (the one under your own name) where you deleted a lot of files…

You’ll need to fix those or provide those resources on the subject site and then repair the links.

The site does have a security certificate.

    Let’s Encrypt Certificate
This certificate is valid and currently in-use with servicedawgs.org.

If that were the case, then the https wouldn’t work for admin, either, right? I tried http address and it just shifted to https. I changed the Settings>General to http and it still went to https. Okay, just got a page to load with http. The certificate lock now has a red line through it. Site still broken.

I use broken link checker and it says there are none. But I will check. But why would broken links break this site? Just in case I misunderstood, what “resources” do you refer to?

Not sure exactly what I did but it is working now. Even with another theme than Twenty Twenty.

I read some of an article that said this latest WordPress update fixed a lot of broken websites. But I reloaded, cleared cache, etc and it wasn’t fixed.

I’ve done all this before but this time it worked.
I deactivated all plugins. (the only ones on were the same ones on all my other sites)
I activated the Twenty Seventeen theme (has sidebar).
    Aaaaand it worked.

I then reactivated the plugins, one at a time, and it worked. Installed another theme, and it is still working.

So….not sure what happened but I guess it is fixed? Going to give it 24hrs before I declare it resolved.
