    Hi All

I am a beginner in wordpress so bear with me but would very much like some help if possible…

I have broken my site at log in level. The site appears and still works but I am unable to log in to the admin, i just get a blank window.

This happened when updating my plugins in batch – now I know not to do that – after 5 successful updates one froze. I tried to cancel it by closing the window. after which I was unable to get any further than the admin log in.

I have updraft back ups of everything except the database – of course!
My host is unable to find out what has happened (!).

    the site is https://www.thedesignangel.co.uk

I expect it is a plug in conflict but am at a loss.

Many thanks in advance, have asked for advice from a few people who have tried/trying their best with the knowledge they have!

    Regards Angie

That usually means your site is crashing with a 500 error (white screen of death).

If it is the plugins then try these steps.

    1. Using FTP or whatever file management tools your host has provided you with navigate to the wp-content directory.
    2. Once there locate and rename the plugin directory to plugins-old. Just that one directory and nothing else and please don’t delete it.
    3. Try and re-login to your WordPress dashboard.

That should let you in after that. Then you can re-install your plugins one at time.

    HI Jan

    thank you for your reply.
We had trouble getting in tot he ftp with the info the host gave us which didnt help. In the end my partner who is also quite good but not an expert on wordpress experimented with his own site and uploaded all my backup files into his to see if it would work. When that did we asked the host to remove wordpress and reinstall a clean version. The uploaded the backups and all is ok!

I now understand about the ftp and the renaming the plug in directory tho so thank you.
What I do need is the proper info to get into the ftp for the future.

I also made the mistake when setting up – a few years ago now – that I should have bought the url!!

    Live and learn I say!!!

Many thanks for your help and reply!
