    Hi Support!

It has been brought to my attention that your plugin isn’t checking links that are started in the custom field that my page builder uses.

How can I set your system up to scan those?

The page builder is Oxygen Builder.

They store them, Old way in a shortcode, new way Json format.

Let me know if you require additional information.

    Hi @keyinora

    I hope you’re well today!

Broken Link Checker doesn’t “crawl” the site on front-end currently and in case of some builders this would stop it from checking them. The shortcode would have to be “rendered” to provide “ready to use” markup for plugin to analyze it. Additionally, if such content is stored in some different-than-default-WordPress format then it may not be able to parse it.

Oxygen Builder is additionally “difficult” to deal with because it completely “disables” standard theme system and as a result also significantly affect how content is processed and presented/handled.

If the content/links to be checked is stored in custom fields then it is possible to make Broken Link Checker check those fields. This can be done by

    – first, enabling “Custom fields” checkbox for “Look for links in” option on “Settings -> Link Chekcer -> Look for links in” page
    – second, adding field names into the text field that shows below that checkbox

However, this has limited capabilities in that sense that if the data stored in the field is not either a regular string or a plain HTML it may not work correctly.

With json-encoded format data it may, theoretically, be able to detect those links if you enable custom fields like that and additionally enable “plaintext URLs” checkbox in “Which Links to Check” settings of Broken Link Checker.

Please note though: as much as I’d love to say otherwise, this is more of “may help” solution rather than “will help for sure. Currently, there’s no “official” compatibility with such builders/builder content.

However, a new version of Broken Link Checker that we are working on will be working on a different principle that will actually crawl the site – it will find and check links “on front-end” so for as long as the site will be available to its crawler, it will not make any difference how it was build. But I don’t have ETA on the new solution currently, I’m afraid. I can only confirm that it’s “on the table” and that it will be mostly “immune” to this kind of issues.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi @keyinora,

Has your dev team made any progress on this?

I’m afraid it’s still in development. At the moment, there isn’t any exact ETA that I could provide but hoping it would be soon.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin
