Broken images when enabling WebP support and using CloudFlare
-
There is a bug caused when using WebP image optimization via the SG Optimizer plugin with CloudFlare CDN.
The issue affects iOS devices, and it’s described here: https://community.cloudflare.com/t/help-imgs-not-appearing-on-ios-but-just-fine-on-a-windows-pc-browser-independent/85242
To summarize, CloudFlare is caching SiteGround’s server response, where SG will serve optimized WebP images based on the user-agent. When a page with WebP images is cached by CloudFlare, iOS users who receive this cached page will see broken images, because WebP is not supported by the Safari engine which is used by both Chrome and Safari on iOS.
